Welding is the process whereby two or more metal elements are fused together by melting or by means of heat, pressure or both forming a join after the parts cool. Spot welding, on the other hand, is a process that generates a series of welding points, at a regular distance between them, on the perimeter of the elements to be joined, without creating a continuous weld.
Tack welding of sheet metal is preferred to welding in operating contexts where the joined parts are subjected to low mechanical stress or in the case that a hermetic joint is not required.
